The AAU Junior Olympic Games are known as the largest national multi-sport event for youth in the USA. The AAU is one of the largest, non-profit, volunteer sports organizations in the country. 32 sports currently take place at the Junior Olympic Games. Every 5 years, Hampton Roads hosts the AAU Junior Olympic Games.
This summer Hampton Roads is expecting to host the 54th Annual Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior Olympic Games for children aged 4 -19. The 2020 AAU Junior Olympic Games is expected to bring in over $50 million in economic impact to benefit the region. The nearly two-week event which takes place from July 29 - August 8 is one of the largest amateur multi-sport events for youth worldwide. Record numbers of athletes and visitors are expected to participate in the 2020 AAU Junior Olympic Games. This year the event features an expanded roster of sports competitions including baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, field hockey, swimming, track and field, and a dozen more sporting events hosted in venues throughout Hampton Roads.
For the 2020 AAU Junior Olympic Games the Hampton Roads Sports Commission utilized Insercorp to design and develop a microsite for the regional sporting event. Similar to the 2015 microsite that Insercorp built over 5 years prior for the 757’s regional sports organization, the 2020 AAU JO Games microsite is integrated with the existing Hampton Roads Sports Commission website, utilizing its clean layout and a global footer while incorporating the unique branding for the 2020 Games with a custom designed theme for the set of pages focused on the national sporting event.
The unique website design was created as an iPlasmaCMS2 Website Template which was then added to the iPlasmaCMS2's Layout Manager to produce a microsite without having to build a new website. Microsites are ideal for events and programs that do not have the intent to become permanent information systems.
